The Investment Case for Colchester

The investment case for Colchester

It is our belief that there is a compelling investment case for residential property in Colchester, a historic town in Essex, in the East of England.

Three factors underpin the investment case for the area:

  • Savills, in their forecasts for house price growth by region, have the East of England as one of the highest-performing regions between 2016-2020. They forecast a predicted growth of 21% (2016: 6.5%, 2017: 4%, 2018: 4%, 2019: 3%, 2020: 2%).
  • Colchester is a well connected area with easy links to London and Stansted Airport. It is popular with commuters who like to buy more space for their money than they could in London.
  • The area benefits from family friendly amenities, such as art and culture centres, green areas and education. Colchester enjoys a strong employment hub with the University of Essex Campus, Colchester Business Park and a mix of business and charity organisations including Natwest Bank and Linklaters law firm amongst others.

Family area and employment hub

Britain’s oldest recorded town, Colchester, benefits from family friendly amenities, such as art and culture centres and large green areas. The town is home to several strong employment hubs with the University of Essex Campus, Colchester Business Park and a mix of business and charity organisations including Natwest Bank and Linklaters law firm amongst others. There is also Colchester General Hospital. Professionals working in these places, in particular hospital workers, tend to have high propensity to rent. The facts above, combined with easy access to central London make for very positive rental prospects.
